Rules

1.) Defense:

  • YOU MUST PLAY ON-BALL DEFENSE AT ALL TIMES, WHEN SOMEONE DRIVES PAST YOU, YOU ARE ALLOWED TO SWITCH TO THE NEXT MAN CLOSEST TO CONTINUE COVERAGE, PLAY DEFENSE OR BLOCK THE SHOT.
  • Zone Defense:
    • You many NOT run zones more than 25-30% of the game.
    • You should be controlling the defender closest to the ball most of the time.
    • THERE IS NO PAINT CAMPING ALLOWED!!! The only time you should control your center is when the opposing team has the ball around the basket.
  • No switching defenses in the during your opponents offensive play, because it causes an unfair unnatural off-ball defense (i.e. no switching from man-to-man to 2-3 zone or from 3-2 to 2-3 zone mid-offensive play)
  • You may not push the ball handler into the back court when he’s bringing it past the half line. If this happens you must give the ball back.
  • You cannot lock on while the other team is bringing the ball up court until after the ball-handler has started moving up toward the 3pt line
  • Intentional Fouls:
    • If your opponent gets an offensive rebound, do not intentional foul the player in order to avoid the easy put back.
    • Do not intentional foul on fastbreaks to prevent guys from getting down court. More than TWO times per game would be considered overdoing it.
    • You can intentionally foul as much as you want at the end of the game if you need to force free throws as is realistic.
  • Inbound Passes:
    • Inbound Pass Stealing is NOT ALLOWED!!! UNLESS….
      • the person throws a long pass that goes past their three-point line in the backcourt,
      • during inbounds plays on the offensive side of the court and stealing those passes are realistic (as long as only controlling 1 defender not moving multiple people around),
      • its the end of the game (under 3 minutes, behind by 12 or more) and are trying to comeback.
  • Do NOT abuse Double Teams, Doubles are NOT used every possession of every game!!
  • Do NOT abuse the steal button, People don’t try to steal multiple times in one possession (i.e. Swipe Swipe Swipe), NOT everyone can steal!!, remember this phrase “YOU REACH, I TEACH” because bad steal attempts usually result in a blow by score!
  • NO REACHING AFTER DEFENSIVE REBOUNDS – No reaching for pass to pg after defensive rebounds. You must give the ball back even if the cpu did it. Get back on defense!!
  • FULL COURT PRESS SHOULD NOT BE USED EXCEPT AT THE END OF THE GAME IN ORDER TO TRY TO COMEBACK TO WIN

2.) Offense:

  • Fast Breaking:
    • The NBA average in FB points is about 12 per game. The top team averages around 20 per game. If you average much more than that per game, it’s not realistic.
    • If you need an exact answer of when it is OK to fast break:
      • After steals
      • After blocks
      • After long rebounds
      • Some normal missed baskets
      • If your opponent has nobody back because they are all crashing the boards, then by all means PUSH IT.
    • You need to walk the ball up court most of the time after made baskets and allow the defense to set up. Do not turbo up the court and pass to the wide open player on the wing or to the cutting big man. The only times you are allowed to push it after made baskets is when the clock is winding down at the end of any quarter or when you are trailing late in the fourth/overtime.
    • No Constant Full Court Passes, 2k Animates when you do a good or bad FULL COURT PASS use this as a reference
  • Play Calling:
    • this is more of a guideline than a rule, you should consider trying to run a play every 3 possessions on average . If you don’t like manually calling plays…. set it up in the settings where the CPU will call them for you. You can also elect to have the play diagram shown on the floor.
    • Do NOT ABUSE the same play over and over, mix it up.
    • Do NOT ABUSE ISO all game, ISO all game is not a form of offense
  • NO RUNNING AROUND IN CIRCLES TRYING TO LOSE DEFENDERS, Running around in circles, trying to lose the defender is not an offense.
  • Three Pointers:
    • Keep in Mind, New York and Orlando shot the most threes a game last NBA season at 26-27 attempts.
      • DO NOT AVERAGE more than 30 three point attempts PER GAME (this number is actually high but giving people opportunities). This means a few games above are okay.
      • If your shooters are being left open (IE: a zone), you are allowed to take as many as you want in that game.
  • Points In The Paint:
    • This is more of a guideline than rule, just to give you something to play by (if becomes a problem we will make this a heavy enforced rule) This rule is: 50% of points in the paint MAX. To get this total you subtract fast break and second chance points from your total PIP displayed for your final total. This is hard to break so don’t try.
    • Teams in NBA DO NOT AVERAGE more than 50% PIP, most much less!!
  • SHOT ATTEMPTS We do NOT want to see players having more than 35 shots in a game, this is extremely unrealistic and continuous abuse will cause you to have players suspended or expulsion from the league.
  • NO EURO STEP 3 POINTER (USERS WILL BE BANNED)
  • DO NOT ABUSE SHOT CREATOR SHOTS (FADES, DRIFTERS, RUNNERS, etc.) A PLAYER DOES NOT HAVE TO FADE OR DRIFT WHEN WIDE OPEN TO MAKE A SHOT!

3.) Miscellaneous:

  • You are allowed three pauses per game (excluding substitutions/match-up changes).
    • More than THREE pauses for anything other than listed above will receive a warning after the game.
  • Do not pause to show your opponent replays unless they have given the okay. Use a mic if you don’t want this to start a fight.
  • NO TRADING A PLAYER BETWEEN THE SAME TEAMS MORE THAN ONCE IN THE SAME SEASON (i.e. BLAKE GRIFFIN TRADED TO NY FOR CARMELO ANTHONY THEN CARMELO TRADED BACK TO NY FOR JR SMITH)
  • Substitutions/Rotations:
    • USE YOUR BENCH, ESTABLISH A ROTATION (don’t have to use that feature can do manually), You should be playing at least 3 bench players (8 man rotation) which is the minimum you will see for an NBA team
    • NO PLAYER should play all minutes of a game, this is not realistic (even if on the game person has a 99 stamina, 99 durability), players need rest, GATORADE CUPS mean you been playing them too long (players play suffers for it), DON’T JUST SUB YOUR BENCH in the last seconds of the game just to follow this rule
  • We use 82games.com as a reference. If a player has played the position in real life RECENTLY, you can put him there WITHIN REASON. ASK if you’re not sure.
  • More than 3% of a team’s minutes must be played at a position for it to be allowed (according to 82games.com).
  • IF SOMEONE IS ON YOUR SCHEDULE, MAKE AN ATTEMPT TO CONTACT THEM AND PLAY THEM (via XBL, TEXT or GroupMe App), PEOPLE HAVE LIVES SO CONTACT MAY NOT HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY OR ON A TIME FRAME YOU LIKE BUT PEOPLE SHOULD RESPOND IN A TIMELY MANNER!!
  • YOU MUST PLAY AN OPPONENT ON YOUR SCHEDULE, THINGS HAPPEN AND SOMETIMES YOU MAY NOT ALWAYS HOOK UP TO PLAY, BUT THERE WILL BE NO PICKING & CHOOSING OF WHO YOU WILL OR WONT PLAY
  • IF YOU HAVE BEEN ON IN THE LAST 24-48 HOURS AND YOUR OPPONENT HAS NOT (ALA OFF-LINE FOR 2 DAYS) AND YOU HAVE BEEN, THEN YOU MAY BE GRANTED A SIM WIN AGAINST THEM
  • DO NOT ASK FOR A SIM WIN AGAINST AN OPPONENT MORE THAN 3 ADVANCES AWAY
  • IF YOU GO ON VACATION OR AWAY AND ARE UNABLE TO PLAY YOUR GAMES, A SIM LOSS WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU IF YOUR OPPONENT ON YOUR SCHEDULE ASKS FOR IT AS LONG AS YOU WILL STILL BE AWAY WHEN THE GAME OCCURS (IT’S NOT YOUR OPPONENTS FAULT THEY ARE TRYING TO PLAY YOU AND YOU ARE NOT AROUND)
  • IF YOU PLAY LESS THAN 50% OF YOUR GAMES IN ANY GIVEN SEASON YOU ARE SUBJECT TO LEAGUE REMOVAL (UNLESS APPROVED THAT YOU MISS TIME)

4.) Sportsmanship:

  • Try to refrain from running up the score on your opponent. If you have a big 4th quarter lead and the game is under control, use your bench (LOWEST RATED PLAYERS), do not take more threes or push the tempo, and run clock.
  • By no means does this mean you have to stop scoring, just slow the tempo and know what not to do to show up your opponent. Not abiding by this rule will result in possible strikes being added for being a dick to your opponent.
  • If you are losing big, don’t quit playing the game and start pouting. We all will get smoked at one time or another but it’s important that everyone play hard until the final buzzer…..feeling frustrated when losing is normal, but when you give up and quit playing hard, you look bad and so does the entire league….. Same strikes rule applies here as above.
  • Talking smack is one thing, flaming or using defamatory comments is another. This league will NOT tolerate flaming of any kind. Any problems or issues with an opponent should be brought to the attention of a staff member first to be resolved. If you are reported for flaming another league member during a game, through e-mail, party chat, text message , private message or via the forums, the following will occur:
    • First Incident: Warning
    • Second Incident: Strike added
    • Third Incident: Expulsion from league

This league is meant to provide a forum where individuals can enjoy playing SIMULATION video game-basketball against “live” opponents — not to verbally attack them. Talking smack is a different issue and is not against any codes of conduct for this league, just be careful not to take it too far.
