Few offseason improvements mean that Madden 12 is another fun but flawed entry in the stagnating series.

Rating Score: 7.5

The Good

  • Improved tackling system
  • Strategic and exciting brand of football.

The Bad

  • Lousy commentators
  • Inconsistent replays
  • Very few worthwhile changes from Madden 11.

Every year at this time, fans across the country are abuzz at the prospect of their chosen team’s seemingly unlimited potential. Any team could hoist the fabled Lombardi Trophy, and that unbridled optimism drenches even the most levelheaded spectators in waves of hope. It’s only after the weeks creep by that fans start to realize their team hasn’t improved much in the months since it last took to the field. That cycle of dizzying expectations crushed by cruel reality is mirrored all too well in Madden NFL 12. The core action has seen slight improvements, making it incrementally better than last year’s offering, and presentation tweaks do a better job of mimicking Sunday’s biggest games. But those minor additions offer little incentive to plunk down your hard-earned cash if you already own a recent entry in the franchise. Madden 12 still offers the strategic excitement the series is known for, but the overall package is a
familiar rendition of America’s favorite sport.

Down goes Eli

Madden 12 Player Roles Defined

Peyton Manning Is A Franchise QB & Team Leader

One of the most intriguing and valuable additions to Madden NFL 12 has come with the introduction of  ’Player Roles’. The impact of each role varies from being helpful or detrimental on the field or in identifying their place on a team roster for management purposes.

Here is a look at what each of the 23 roles signify and the current lineup of players who have received a role for each NFL team. It’s unclear at this time if roles will be altered over the course of the year through roster updates.

Deep Threat: This role means that this player is someone who is a threat to stretch the defense on any play. It does have an in-game impact, increasing the player’s receiving ratings and his QB’s deep throw accuracy.

Defensive Playmaker: This role means that this player is valued by their franchise as a player who can make a huge play when needed the most. It does have an in-game impact, increasing the player’s ratings at key moments in the game.

Feature Back: This role means that this HB is valued by their franchise as the focus of their running game. It does have an in-game impact, and it increases this player’s stamina and ball carrier vision ratings.

First Round Pick: This role means that this player was drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft. Continue reading Madden 12 Player Roles Defined

Madden NFL 12 Releases Its 36 “Clutch Players”

Andre Johnson Is Clutch

According to EA Sports and Madden NFL 12 there are currently 36 “clutch” players in the league. The new ‘Player Traits’ this year provide more insight into how individuals are viewed and how they will perform in Madden beyond just their ratings.

EA has done an admirable job in reflecting some personality in the players by going this route. When it comes to “Clutch” while offensive and defensive lineman are omitted from consideration all other positions have the ability to receive it – and in doing so get a ratings boost in certain high pressure situations.

The following players have received the “Clutch” trait:

•QB: Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Eli Manning, Josh Freeman

•RB: Maurice Jones-Drew, Peyton Hillis, Marshawn Lynch

•WR/TE: Antonio Gates, Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Wes Welker, Santonio Holmes, Anquan Boldin

•LB: Patrick Willis, DeMarcus Ware, James Harrison, Clay Matthews, Ray Lewis, Brian Urlacher

•CB/S: Darrelle Revis, Nnamdi Asomugha, Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed, Champ Bailey, Asante Samuel, Charles Woodson, Tracy Porter

•K: Ryan Longwell, Rob Bironas, Adam Vinatieri

So it looks like “Clutch” has gone to the many elite individuals plus those who are most remembered for making a single monumental play (E. Manning, Porter, Lynch). It remains unclear if there are any plans to update the player ‘Traits’ or ‘Roles’ along with the ratings changes in the new rosters that are delivered over the course of the season.

Madden 12 Gameplay: St Louis Rams (So BOLD oS) @ Green Bay Packers (Jesmonkey69)

Gameplay footage of a full TSG Online Community game between the St Louis Rams @ the Green Bay Packers in Madden NFL 12, there is finally audio and some better video quality, with me still testing out settings on my Roxio Game Capture Card, trying to get it just right (which these videos are closer to it) before the TSG Madden 12 OF begins. Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the last 2 videos that go with it before I got to upload them to YouTube, but the result was a GB win. Check out the video below:

Madden 12 “Club 100” Winners Announced

"Mr. Perfect" Tom Brady Garners The 100 Accuracy Rating In Madden 12

With all the extensive coverage of Madden NFL 12 at the end of last week, along with the availability to play via the ‘Season Ticket’, the announcement of the ‘Club 100′ winners understandably got pushed to the side. Now though lets take a look at the five players who won the right through a vote to receive the coveted 100 rating in a particular category.

Throw Accuracy: Tom Brady
With 36% of the vote Brady won with relative ease as there was no other player that stood out enough to avoid splitting the remainder of the votes. Peyton Manning came in second followed by Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Philip Rivers.

Elusiveness: Adrian Peterson
This one is a bit of a surprise as Peterson often makes the highlights with his power runs – though he certainly is elusive as well. He edged out Jamaal Charles, who was perceived to be the favorite, by just 2%. Ray Rice, Danny Woodhead, and LeSean McCoy all finished well behind those two.

Hit Power: James Harrison
With 43% of the vote Harrison had the second largest margin of victory over the runner-up. In this case that was Patrick Willis, who was trailed by Ray Lewis, Clay Matthews, and Ray Maualuga (who got the least percentage of votes of anyone in the campaign with just 2%).

Spectacular Catch: Larry Fitgerald
Here is where there was no competition. Fitzgerald cruised to 52% with Calvin Johnson the runner up at 24%. Not much remained to be split between Braylon Edwards, Brandon Lloyd, and Dez Bryant.

Speed: DeSean Jackson
The other close call came in this category where Jackson beat Chris Johnson by just 4%. Devin Hester, Jacoby Ford, and Jamal Charles all collected 10-13% of the votes.

The 100 ratings were not reflected in the most recent Madden NFL 12 roster update. Instead they are expected to be included in the next update which is likely to coincide with the start of the regular season late next week.

Madden 12 Gameplay: Atlanta (MR 463) @ Green Bay (Jesmonkey69)

Gameplay footage of the 1st half of the Atlanta Falcons @ the Green Bay Packers in Madden NFL 12, there is no audio and some points of slight lag/speedup in the video due to an issue when recording with the new capture card (issue since has been solved and future videos will have full audio & no video lag/speedup). Madden 12 Arrives Early With Season Ticket

EA Sports has confirmed via Twitter that Madden NFL 12 will be available through the “Season Ticket” tomorrow for the Xbox 360 at 9am ET/6am PT and the PS3 at approximately 6pm ET/3pm PT. The game will also be immediately playable after the download completes which is likely to take several hours (the file size is 4.8 GB).

The digital copy will expire at 6am ET/3am PT on Tuesday morning but all saved files and achievements will transfer to retail copies. The only mode unavailable with the digital download is Madden Ultimate Team. All other modes including online play are accessible.

Madden NFL 12 Player Ratings: NFC North

The deliberately slow rollout of Madden NFL 12 ratings continues with the latest four teams to have been broken down this week. The completion of the NFC North leaves only the NFC South to come.

Check out the rosters and ratings for the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings. These are four teams that didn’t make many waves with their off-season moves and the reigning champs return largely the same roster though with many players returning from the injured list.
