Three Sports Games Finish in Top Ten Sales for 2014

With NPD reports in for December the entirety of 2014 can be analyzed and three sports games finished in the top ten of sales for the year. The three in question are regulars when rounding up the best-sellers annually.

Madden NFL 15 finished as the second biggest seller in 2014. Only Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was able to top it. NBA 2K15 finished the year in seventh place and FIFA 15 came through in ninth place.

It’s important to note that NPD only covers North America. NBA 2K and FIFA are far stronger properties than Madden overseas. FIFA has been the top selling game in the world for several years now, and more recently has shown impressive growth in the US. Its first appearance in the NPD top ten came in 2012. Madden finished the year strongest of the group, as it usually does, coming in third in December but NBA 2K15 still has six months ahead of it where it will continue to place among the best sellers.

NBA 2K15 Online League Details

LD2K answered a few questions about NBA 2K15 online leagues earlier this afternoon. Below are some of the details.

  • Can adjust # of teams, season length, difficulty/style, quarter length, trades, playoffs/Finals & custom rosters.
  • Can view player & team stats, standings, team rosters, trades and more.
  • Flex scheduling is in.
  • Admins can reset games.
  • No fantasy drafts this year.
  • Custom rosters are in Online Leagues, you could set up the rosters prior to setting up the league and having users select teams from there.
  • CPU controlled teams are in.

We have contacted 2K for a few more answers and we will update if we hear back.

Madden 15 Desync Issue Patched Again (Possibly Fixed)

In a server-side update for Madden NFL 15 released earlier this month EA Sports claimed to have fixed a desync issue in head-to-head games within the mode. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case and the rate of desyncs only increased to the point that there was no reason even to continue playing in leagues until it was actually addressed.

Yesterday the company pushed out another server-side update that has locked to the “Camera Toggle” option to ON. So now it’s set to OFF in the settings it will be off against the CPU but not in any H2H games. Supposedly this will solve the majority of the desyncs that were taking place. While this may reduce the number of desyncs, and hopefully dramatically so, it probably won’t eliminate them completely. There have been desyncs in the past even when both players had the camera toggle turned on.

In early testing a handful of games have been completed without incident. That’s far too small a sample size to say anything definitively but it’s at least a good sign that it may be worth giving things another chance.

One complaint this has now caused relates to the d-pad being used for pre-snap adjustments. With camera toggle forced on users who prefer to have it off and utilize the “Strategy Pad” for those functions are no longer able to do so. No indication has been given whether a patch will fix the desyncs and allow people to have the toggle turned off if they so choose or if this has been deemed to be the long-term solution.

Patch for NHL 15 Delivers Promised First Wave of Content

When it was discovered just how much was missing from the Xbox One and PS4 version of NHL 15 EA Sports attempted to soften the blowback by laying out a plan to add in some features in the months ahead. The first of those features have made it in through a patch today.

Play an offline bracket tournament with up to 16 teams. Use the teams from the NHL or create your own tournament tree by selecting teams from up to 12 different leagues. Play or simulate each game and track player and team stats throughout the tournament. Continue reading Patch for NHL 15 Delivers Promised First Wave of Content

No Demo for NBA 2K15

All along it appeared unlikely that 2K Sports would be offering a pre-release demo for NBA 2K15 after passing on doing so with 2K14. That has turned out to be the case with Operation Sports getting confirmation that there will be no demo for the game.

The NBA 2K series is in a position where a demo may not be a necessity but the decision can still be legitimately questioned. While companies have started to move away from the traditional demo (MLB: The Show was really the first and there wasn’t one for Madden NFL 15 either) with the thinking that they may do more harm than good there’s still an audience that can be reached through them.
