What power does a word carry? Is there a word or words that you are offended by? The freedom of speech is what separates America from other countries, the ability to say whatever you want, whenever you want & whatever you believe is guaranteed to you, but is there a line? Should there be? Are certain words so offensive that they carry more weight? Twice this season in the NBA homophobic slurs were used. Once by Kobe Bryant, directed towards a referee & once in the Eastern Conference Finals by Joakim Noah at a fan.
While I am a gay rights supporter, I’m also a supporter of freedom of speech even offensive speech I disagree with. I understand these gentleman were working at the time, so their employers have the right to discipline them but shouldn’t we use these instances as learning opportunities ? Lets try to get to the root cause of the problem, young men in competitive environments use homophobic slurs to disrespect their opponents, any guy who has ever played a sport knows I’m right. We need to educate our children at a young age that there is nothing wrong with being gay. If we teach our children that it’s not an insult to call someone gay we can help to stop this cycle of hate. Take the power out of the word don’t empower the word by making it off limits. A perfect example of this is the use of the “N word ” by young hip-hop artists. By taking ownership of the word instead of hiding the word they have in effect taken some of the sting out of it’s use. Obviously since I’m not using the word not all of the sting is removed but my point is censorship is never good even if it’s done for the right reason.
EA brings forth authenticity with its attention to detail.
When I was very young, my parents separated. Having grown up to that point on Long Island, I ended up moving with my mother to the great state of Maine. It was there — in the cold climate of New England — that the love of hockey I began to develop on Long Island flourished into a lifelong addiction. Stepping onto the ice for the first time, learning the fundamentals of the game at a young age, and playing year round simply solidified my love of all things hockey.
Now that I’m older, I reflect upon those days fondly. Traveling around New England, throwing my body all over the crease to make Arturs Irbe-like saves (yes, I was a goalie), and trying to get as many puck marks as possible on my goalie equipment was what I lived for. But wait… puck marks on goalie equipment? That’s what mattered Continue reading The Little Things Count in NHL 12
Hypocrisy is the state of pretending to have beliefs, opinions, virtues, feelings, qualities, or standards that one does not actually have. Hypocrisy involves the deception of others and is thus a kind of lie. As a country we pretend to be against drugs, gambling, and prostitution. Yet a recent study by the DEA found roughly seven million Americans are abusing prescription drugs. If accurate, that would be an increase of 80 percent in six years and more than the total abusing cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens, Ecstasy and inhalants. Yet we will spend at least 50 billion dollars this year alone to fight illegal drugs. Meanwhile giving pharmaceutical companies huge subsidies which they spend on advertising. Gambling is illegal in most places except for the state sponsored lotteries, as long as you gamble your money with the state it’s ok. Prostitution is illegal almost everywhere, unless you agree to enter into a long term contract (i.e. Marriage). Then it’s fine to exchange sex for money, but if I want to enter into a short term lease then I’m a criminal.
NetherRealm Studios has announced that today it has released a “Hot Fix” for its latest installment of the MK Franchise on both the Xbox 360 & PS3. This hot fix is before the upcoming full patch and DLC for the years hottest fighting game. Things are looking good for this game as they could have just waited until June for the patch to arrive (hopefully solving intermittent lag issues) but they decided to do some minor tweaks and tuning ahead of that. Kung Lao has been dominating tourneys, Baraka and Sheeva are very low on the tier lists. With this update & the one to come it looks like it has solved this issue.
The first two downloadable characters will be Kenshi, a blind swordsman first introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, and Skarlet, a red female character based on a glitch in Mortal Kombat II. Besides the patch, the upcoming DLC also contains some “free stuff”. Skarlet was actually added to Mortal Kombat following a glitch in a previous game, which would turn Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile and some of the female characters red. The character was eventually released in the Mortal Kombat 3 game, but as she was left unnamed, the community decided to call her Skarlet. There had been previous reports that Skarlett would be appearing in the Mortal Kombat game, but she wasn’t officially announced until March 27th. I’m always amazed when I go to my local convenience store and see the line of people waiting to buy lottery tickets. I’m not comfortable making judgements about people but most of these people don’t seem to me to be rich. They seem like hard-working people who probably don’t have a lot of money, dreaming they will one day be rich. Ok not a great revaluation there but my point is rich people don’t buy lottery tickets. Maybe if you wanna be like somebody you should start by acting like them. Save your money and invest it in something you believe in. The richest people I know spend the least amount of money. Yet the poorest people I know spend money like crazy. Eating out all the time, smoking cigarettes, buying expensive prepackaged processed food, buying lottery tickets. Doesn’t it make sense that if you spend less you’ll have more. Trust me your not gonna be the next lottery millionaire. In your whole life have you ever met a lottery millionaire? I guess the only good thing about the lottery in my state of Virginia is all of the lottery profits go to schools. About 436 million a year, sounds like a lot until you hear the total state school budget for the year is 5.5 billion. Politicians always say people can spend their own money better than government but they are strangely silent on the lottery issue.
Work is being completed on a comprehensive second patch for Fight Night Champion with the expectation that it will be released in mid-June. The patch will return general stamina levels to values in line with what shipped with the game originally – citing complaints that stamina was affecting the fights too drastically – and will bring back one punch knockouts. Continue on for a look at some of the changes to be delivered in the upcoming patch.

•Stamina loss is greater when moving backwards (most noticable over multiple rounds).

EA Sports has released the full fact sheet for Madden 12 that lays out the features for the game. Welcome to my new sports column, 100 Words Or Else by me Craig Cook aka zombie71. I am a gigantic Dallas Cowboys & Washington Wizards fan. In my blogs you will here varying opinions on sports, life, TV or whatever comes to my mind. Without further ado here is my blog.
In sports as in life we face obstacles, in sports the obstacles are often referred to as “the hump”. In this bloggers opinion, the Dallas Mavericks are about to clear the hump, more specifically their All-Star forward Dirk Nasty. Dirk Nowitzki usually & unjustly in my opinion, has been all to commonly referred to as soft, “can’t win/never win the big one”, “playoff choker”, etc.; all of this for a career All-Star, 1st ballot Hall of Fame Player. This is the Mavericks year, its Dirk’s year, they won’t have a better chance than now. The Lakers & Spurs, their old nemesis are gone, with whispers of D12 on his way in the future to help Kobe. Legendary wrestler Randy Savage, known to fans as “Macho Man,” died in a car accident in Tampa, Fla., on Friday, according to TMZ. He was 58.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Savage was driving his Jeep Wrangler when he veered across a concrete median, through oncoming traffic, and “collided head-on with a tree.” He was transported to Largo Medical Center, where he died. Savage’s wife of one year, Lynn, was a passenger but sustained only minor injuries, according to TMZ.
Savage’s brother, Lanny Poffo told TMZ that the wrestler suffered a heart attack while he was driving and then lost control of the vehicle.
Savage joined the World Wrestling Federation in 1985 and became a star with the catchphrase “ooooooh yeaaaahhh.” He also made a series of memorable TV commercials where he urged viewers to “snap into a Slim Jim.”
